Pest infestations are not pleasant to deal with no matter whether you have a problem with rats, mice, birds, wasps, ants, cockroaches or bedbugs. This is why most people will turn to help from a professional pest control company, such as B-Discreet.
Sometimes it can be easy to identify what pest problem you have, such as a wasps nest in your roof space, or hundreds of black ants running around your kitchen, but sometimes pests cannot be quite so obvious, such as bedbugs for example.
Because they mostly come out at night while you are sleeping, most people don’t spot or recognise bed bugs in their home. Getting rid of bedbugs can be one of the hardest pests to eradicate. Many people think that it can be as easy as sprinkling some powdered pesticide around or getting rid of their bedding where the bugs may have made their home.
However, it isn’t as simple as that and in most cases of bedbug infestation hiring a professional pest control company, such as B-Discreet Northampton is the only way you are going to be rid of them.
How do I know I have bedbugs?
Bedbugs are nocturnal insects and come in two common species: the Cimex lectularius and the Cimex hemipterus. They are crawling blood-sucking insects that cannot fly. They are brown or reddish-brown and their bodies appear flat and oval in shape.
They are quite tiny insects so it can be difficult to spot them. Their size ranges between 1mm to 7mm and will crawl out of their hiding spots at night to feed on your blood.
If you notice that you have a red rash or tiny red bite marks on your body, then this is a sign of bedbugs. When they bite they inject an anticoagulant to stop the blood clotting. This is what causes your skin to become irritated and a rash to develop.
Bedbug bites can be dangerous to anyone sensitive to the chemicals contained in the anticoagulant, so it is important to treat your home as soon as you become aware you have a problem.
How bedbugs get into your bed
Bedbugs don’t necessarily live in large groups, so you can have one or two bedbugs and not even know it. They don’t rely on a colony like ants or wasps, so they can live quite happily on their own.
How bedbugs get into your bed has nothing to do with how clean your bed sheets are. These insects are attracted by the carbon dioxide breathed out by their hosts, so are naturally attracted to humans.
They can travel from place to place and usually spread by taking a ride on their human hosts, so people themselves are usually the cause of the spread of bedbugs by carrying them in their hair, luggage, towels, clothes, bags and personal belongings.
Beds are an ideal place for them to hide as they are dark and cool places to shelter.
