Helmets as Important as Breathing

Traveling by motorbike has been a frequent part of daily life for many years and continues to be an important means of transportation in India owing to rising traffic and rising gas and diesel prices.

So, why is wearing a motorcycle helmetis necessary? It is being proved by the studies that wearing helmets can reduce the risk of fatal head injury if a person is met with a road accident. In today’s time’s number of accidents is increasing day by day and we are very much aware of that because every day we see many road accidents around us and many accidents lead to deaths, and most are due to overspeeding and not wearing helmets.

Around 1214 road accidents occur daily in India and 25% are because of two-wheelers, which is a very serious note to think over it as the death rate due to accidents is increasing with a huge number. Most of the states have imposed mandatory laws, to reduce accidents, like speed cameras have been installed due to which over speeding is in control, if one does so have to bear heavy challans and impound of vehicles, certain challansare also made on the account of not wearing motorcycle helmets.

The government can only take severe efforts to decrease accidents, but our safety is entirely in our hands. If we violate the government’s safety regulations, we should think about our families first, since if someone is engaged in a car accident just that individual and his family will suffer.

And yes, it’s not only about wearing a motorcycle helmets, if a person is buying a helmet, but they must also check all the safety norms which have been issued by the government like, ISI marks are made on the good quality helmets which tells that the product has gone through several tests which helps in reducing the risk of fatal head injury because when a crash occurs, motorcyclists need adequate head protection to prevent one of the leading causes of death and disability in India due to severe head injuries.

What is the effectiveness of motorcycle helmets in avoiding brain injury?

Wearing a helmet creates an additional layer for the head and protects the wearer from some of the severe forms of traumatic injury. Its main aim is to provide safety to the wearer’s head and reduce the risk of serious head and brain injuries by reducing the impact of force or collision on the head. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that helmets are 37% effective in preventing deaths in accidents and 67% effective in preventing brain injuries. So, one should wear helmets for their safety.

Conclusion

Motorcycle helmets protect adult riders engaged in traffic accidents, and their use is connected with a reduction in fatality rates and the risk of brain injuries. However, among motorcyclists involved in crashes, no similar protective impact of helmet wearing was identified.Don’t forget your lovely ones are waiting for you. And your one mistake can result in any bad things.
