Is Your Volleyball Net Height Accurate?

Being familiar with the official regulation volleyball net height in varying situations is imperative when attempting to abide by the rules of the game. It is important to remember, when measuring the height of your volleyball net for an outdoor game in grass, measure from the ground and not the tips of the grass. When measuring the height of your volleyball net for a game played on the beach or other sandy area, measure from the ground that has recently been raked level. Regardless of where the game is being played, the net is always measured from the center of the net and the sides of the net must never rise higher than 3/4 inch above the center. No matter the situation, if you follow these guidelines you will be prepared for anything the officials may throw at you on game day!

The official regulation volleyball net height differs for male and female teams. Not only this but it differs for specific age brackets as well. The standard official regulation volleyball net height for men is 2.43 meters or 7 feet and 11 and 5/8th inches but this changes if the men are between the ages of 55 and 69. In this bracket the official regulation volley ball net height is 2.38 meter is 7 feet and 9 and 5/8th inches. For men 70 years old our older, the official regulation volley ball net height is 2.29 meter, or six feet.

For women playing the game. The standard official regulation volleyball net height is 2.24 meters, or 7 feet and 4 and 1/8th inches. For women over the age of 45, the official regulation volleyball net height is 2.19 meters, or 7 feet and 2 and 1/8th inches. The standard regulation volleyball net height for both the standing disabled men and woman’s team follow the same guidelines as their non-disabled counterparts.

Although there are differences in net height between men and women’s teams. If the game is being played by a co-ed team, than the game is played using men’s net height standards.

There is also a regulatory height for disabled players who are playing the game while “sitting”. The official regulation sitting volleyball net height for men is 1.15 meters or 3 feet and 9.28 inches. The official regulation sitting volleyball net height for women is 1.05 meters, or 3 feet and 5.43 inches. These games are also played on a smaller court.

The official regulation volleyball net height for children remains the same unless the children playing are girls under 10. The standard regulation volleyball net for children in general is 2.13 meters, or 7 feet. The official regulation volleyball net height for girls under 10 is 1.98 meter, or 6 and a half feet. The official regulation volleyball net height for middle school games vary from state to state so be sure to check with your local guidelines before determining the height of your volleyball net.
