According to Apple, there are about 100 million people who use their Mac products.
If you’re one of those millions of Mac users, you might be wondering what the most common Mac problems are and what to do if you encounter them.
Thankfully, we have you covered, so make sure you keep reading!
- Spinning Beach Ball
The spinning beach ball is a normal thing for Mac users, but if you see it for extended periods of time, it might be time to figure out why.
One thing you can check is the Activity Monitor. This is found in your utilities folder, and it tells you what apps are using most of your computer’s power and resources.
You’ll be able to see stats in real-time to see how many resources it’s using. If an app you’re not using is using up too much power, you can force the app to close and free up your computer again!
- Slow
If your Mac is running slowly, it might just be old. Computers tend to get slower as time goes on, but if you just bought it recently, you shouldn’t be having that issue.
If your computer is running slow, there might be a few things that can help speed it up. Go back to your Activity Monitor and see what apps are taking up the computer power.
You may also want to find out if there are any apps installed on your computer that you don’t need. Freeing up some storage space can always help to alleviate some of the time it takes for things to load.
- No Internet
You probably need the Internet to do most of your work, so what do you do when it stops working?
It may be because your router is too far away from your computer. If the router is too far away, you won’t have as much signal strength, so your Internet could have a weak connection.
However, if that’s not the issue, you can go to System Preferences and go to the Network menu. You should be able to see a list of all the available networks there and connect with ones that you had previously connected to.
There should also be an option to run a diagnostic test to see what issue there is if they won’t connect.
- Not Charging
Mac users have problems charging all the time, so there are plenty of solutions to fix it.
If you have a MacBook that has a removable battery, try and take the battery out and then put it back in. Sometimes that can fix the problem by itself.
However, if that doesn’t work, check the charging cord to see if the issue lies there. If the cord or the outlet it’s plugged in to is damaged, it will have problems connecting.
Sometimes if those solutions don’t work, you’ll need to reset your System Management Controller. This can also help to reset other issues with your computer, but the way to do is different on each computer.
If that doesn’t solve your issue, you may need to take it into the store to have it looked at.
- App Not Working
Sometimes you may have certain applications that stopped working or are corrupted. Each app has its own configuration, and the computer has to read it in order for it to work.
For example, if you’re having an issue with VLC for Mac and it crashes, the Mac will automatically reset the preferences to try and get it to work again. However, you can also do this on your own.
- Login Not Working
Sometimes you won’t even be able to log into your Mac computer. If one of your startup apps isn’t working, this means that you won’t be able to get into your computer.
However, you can remove each item that is hindering you from logging in. Once you remove one, try again until it lets you in.
To do this, go to System Preferences and then go to Users and Groups. Click on your name, and then click on the tab that says Login Items.
Start deleting the ones on the list until it lets you log in.
- Overheating
Lastly, you might find that your computer is getting too hot while you’re using it. It’s normal for it to get warm and make a little bit of noise, but if you hear clanking and banging, you might want to open it up and look inside.
It’s also an issue if your Mac is getting so hot that it shuts itself off.
To help prevent this, you can download apps that will tell you the temperature of your computer. It will alert you if it gets too high and then can give you instructions on how to fix it.
To help get rid of the heat, you should make sure that it’s on a flat surface and that the vent isn’t covered by anything. If the vent is covered, all the hot air will just swirl around inside of your computer and cause some damages.
